Portrait of William Henry Welch, MD (1850-1934) in military officer’s uniform. Dr. Welch taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Pathology from 1878 to 1884. Welch served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War I, eventually rising to the rank of Brigadier General in the Reserve Corps and earning a Distinguished Service Medal for his wartime service.
