Bell Professor of Plastic Surgery (1957-1981). He also served as the head of the Institute for Reconstructive & Plastic Surgery.

Portrait of Marion Baldur Sulzberger, MD (1895-1984). Dr. Sulzberger became director of the New York Skin and Cancer Unit in 1947. From 1949 to 1960, he served as Professor of Dermatology and chairman of the Department of Dermatology at New York University Medical School. Dr. Sulzberger was named professor emeritus in 1960.

Portrait of Paul Ferdinand Schilder, MD (1886-1940). Dr. Schilder was born in Vienna and received his MD from the Medical University of Vienna in 1909. A prominent Austrian psychiatrist, he emigrated to the United States in 1929. From 1930 to his death in 1940, he served as medical director of the psychiatric division of Bellevue Hospital and research professor of psychiatry at New York University College of Medicine.

Dr. Janeway served as Professor of Diseases of the Mind and Nervous System, Professor of Medicine, and Professor of Pathology and Practical Anatomy during his time at Bellevue Hospital Medical College and University & Bellevue Hospital Medical College (1881-1907). He served as the first dean of University & Bellevue Hospital Medical College when it merged in 1898. In 1878, Dr. Janeway hired the famous pathologist Dr. William Welch upon his return to the United States. From 1875 to 1881, Dr. Janeway served as the New York City Health Commissioner.

The Report of the Council, referred to as the Magna Carta of municipal sanitation in the United States, resulted in a law passed in 1866 which established the Health Department. Dr. Smith was a founder of and the first president of the American Public Health Association.
