Portrait of Alexander Solomon Wiener, MD (1907-1976). Dr. Wiener joined the Department of Forensic Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine in 1938, where he rose to the rank of full professor. In 1938, he also joined the office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the City of New York as a serologist.

John Henry Wyckoff

Portrait of John Henry Wyckoff, Jr., MD (1881-1937) seated at his desk. Dr. Wyckoff received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1907. His long career at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College spanned from 1910 to 1937. From 1932 to 1937 he served as Professor of Medicine and Dean of the Medical School.

Arthur Zitrin

Dr. Zitrin received his MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1945. His long and accomplished career at New York University School of Medicine began when he was appointed to the medical faculty in 1949. In 1967, Dr. Zitrin became a full professor of psychiatry. From 1955 to 1968, he was Director of Psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital Center, and from 1962 to 1964, he served as Director of Psychiatry of the New York City Department of Hospitals.

Marion B. Sulzberger

Photograph of Marion Baldur Sulzberger, MD (1895-1984), seated, with a patient and three medical students. The image was published in the 1952-53 Bulletin of the Post-Graduate Medical School.

Dr. Sulzberger became director of the New York Skin and Cancer Unit in 1947. From 1949 to 1960, he served as Professor of Dermatology and chairman of the Department of Dermatology at New York University Medical School. Dr. Sulzberger was named professor emeritus in 1960.

William Henry Welch

Portrait of William Henry Welch, MD (1850-1934) in military officer’s uniform. Dr. Welch taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Pathology from 1878 to 1884. Welch served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War I, eventually rising to the rank of Brigadier General in the Reserve Corps and earning a Distinguished Service Medal for his wartime service.

Dr. Smith was Professor of Physiology and Director of the Physiological Laboratories at New York University School of Medicine from 1928 to 1961. His scholarship on renal physiology transformed the field, and in 1951 he published The Kidney: Structure and Function in Health and Disease.
