Bellevue Hospital - Entrance Gate

Image

Exterior view of the Bellevue Hospital Gatehouse entrance, erected in 1885 on the north side of 26th Street midway between First Avenue and the East River and the East River, demolished in 1929. The Gatehouse originally had gas lanterns on either side of the gate; in this photograph they have been removed, which dates the image to later in the structure’s existence.
