Mr. Clausman became the librarian of the New York University Medical Center in 1955 and in 1959 was appointed Library Curator until his retirement in 1986. Among his many accomplishments in the field of medical librarianship, he served as president of the Medical Library Association and spearheaded the transformation of the NYU Medical Library into an academic department with faculty status for librarians.

Ferdinand-Jean Darier

Signed print of a 1916 portrait of Ferdinand-Jean Darier, MD (1856-1938), by the artist Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer. The inscription reads, “Au Dr. Howard Fox, cordial souvenir (Paris, Copenhagen, Budapest), Dr. Darier.” Dr. Darier was an important French dermatologist who discovered many skin diseases, including the genetic skin condition Darier’s disease. From 1909 to 1922, he was head of the clinical department of the Hôpital Saint-Louis, a hospital with an international reputation as a center for dermatological research.

Signed portrait of Austin Flint, III, MD (1868-1955). Dr. Flint received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1889. He taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Assistant to the Chair of Physiology (1889-1892), Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics (1893-1895), Professor of Obstetrics (1895-1897), and Professor of Obstetrics and Clinical Midwifery (1897-1898). Dr. Flint then taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology (1898-1924), Professor of Obstetrics (1924-1933), and Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics (1933-1955).

Richard Charles de Bodo

Portrait of Richard Charles de Bodo, MD, (1896-1965). Dr. De Bodo was born and educated in Hungary. He is known for his studies of the pharmacology of morphine, cardiac drugs, hormonal regulation of carbohydrate metabolism, and the effects of insulin and growth hormone on carbohydrate and fat metabolism.

Dr. De Bodo taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology (1929-1934) and Associate Professor of Pharmacology (1934-1953). He then served as Professor of Pharmacology at the New York University College of Medicine from 1953 to 1965, and also served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology in 1952 and from 1961 to 1963.

Brown Professor of Therapeutics (1933-1980).
