Henry MacCormac

Photograph of Henry MacCormac, MD (1879-1950), seated on a bench beneath a tree. The inscription reads, “Near Munich, Sept. 1935. To Dr. Howard Fox, with kindest regards from Henry MacCormac.” Dr. MacCormac was an Irish dermatologist who worked and taught at Middlesex Hospital in London. He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War I.

Solomon A. Berson

Portrait of Solomon A. Berson, MD (1918-1972). Dr. Berson received his MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1945. With his research partner Rosalyn Yarow, he developed the radioimmunoassay. Berson also researched blood volume measurement with radioisotopes, kinetics of iodine metabolism, and thyroid function. In his honor, the New York University School of Medicine created the Solomon A. Berson Medical Alumni Achievement Awards in 1979.

Henry Honeyman Hazen

Portrait of Henry Honeyman Hazen, MD (1879-1951). Dr. Hazen was an important dermatologist who taught at Howard University Medical School from 1911 to 1944 and served in many public health roles within United States government.

Walter James Highman

Portrait of Walter James Highman, MD (1879-1934), in military uniform. The photograph is inscribed, “To my good friend and frequent traveling companion Howard Fox, Walter James Highman, May 10/22.” Dr. Highman served as Clinical Professor of Dermatology and Syphilology at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1928 to 1931.
