His thirty-six years of association with New York University began in 1929. Known for his studies of the pharmacology of morphine, cardiac drugs, hormonal regulation of carbohydrate metabolism and more recently on the effects of insulin and growth hormone on carbohydrate and fat metabolism.<p> This photograph is mounted on hard board (1 copy slide, 1 copy print mounted on foam core). Portrait of Austin Flint, III, MD (1868-1955). Dr. Flint received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1889. He taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Assistant to the Chair of Physiology (1889-1892), Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics (1893-1895), Professor of Obstetrics (1895-1897), and Professor of Obstetrics and Clinical Midwifery (1897-1898). Dr. Flint then taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology (1898-1924), Professor of Obstetrics (1924-1933), and Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics (1933-1955).

Frederic Shepard Dennis

Carte de visite portrait of Frederic Shepard Dennis, MD (1850-1934). Dr. Dennis received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1874. He taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College as an Adjunct Professor of Surgery (1881-1883) and Professor of Surgery (1883-1898). Dr. Dennis introduced Lister's antiseptic methods in operative surgery in the United States. His friendship with Andrew Carnegie is said to have influenced the gift of the Carnegie Laboratory to the College of Medicine. Built in 1884, this was the first laboratory in the country established for teaching and investigation in bacteriology and pathology. Dr. Dennis was made one of its directors.

Portrait of Austin Flint, III, MD (1868-1955). Dr. Flint received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1889. He taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Assistant to the Chair of Physiology (1889-1892), Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics (1893-1895), Professor of Obstetrics (1895-1897), and Professor of Obstetrics and Clinical Midwifery (1897-1898). Dr. Flint then taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology (1898-1924), Professor of Obstetrics (1924-1933), and Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics (1933-1955).

L. Royal Christensen

Photograph of L. Royal Christensen, MD, seated at desk, from p. 43 of the 1954 NYU Medical Violet yearbook. Dr. Christensen taught at the New York University College of Medicine from 1941 to 1967 as a Fellow in Medicine (1941-1943), Instructor in Bacteriology (1943-1946), Assistant Professor of Microbiology (1946-1955), Associate Professor of Microbiology (1955-1959), and Associate Professor of Pathology (1959-1967). In 1953, he was named the director of the Berg Institute for Experimental Physiology, Surgery and Pathology. In 1962, he was appointed the Patent Officer for the NYU Medical Center.

Rowland Godfrey Freeman

Photograph of a painted portrait of Rowland Godfrey Freeman, Sr., MD, (1859-1945) dressed in regalia. Dr. Freeman taught in the Pediatrics department of University Hospital and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1898 to 1930 and was then Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics from 1930 to 1945. From 1898 to 1911, he served as Chief of the Pediatric Clinic.

Howard Fox

Portrait of Howard Fox, MD (1873-1954). Dr. Fox taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1925 to 1938 as Professor of Dermatology and Syphilology, after which he held the position of Professor Emeritus from 1948 to 1954.
