Photograph of Edgar H. Bates, MD (1905-1990). Dr. Bates received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1931. He taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as an Assistant in Surgery from 1934 to 1939. Dr. Bates then taught at New York University College of Medicine as Instructor in Surgery (1941 to 1954) and Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery (1954-1987).

Portrait of Alson E. Braley, MD (1906-1993). Dr. Braley taught at the New York University College of Medicine as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology from 1949 to 1950.

On the back of the photograph, a clipping from “The Medical Advance” reads: "Named Professors at Post-Graduate", "Dr. Alson E. Braley last month was named Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, Post-Graduate Medical School, it was announced by Dr. Robert Boggs, Dean. Dr. Braley, since 1941 an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University, will direct the care of patients with eye diseases, the teaching of ophthalmology on the postgraduate levels and various research projects on the Eye Service of Bellevue Hospital. Portrait of Ivan L. Bennett, Jr., MD (1922-1990). Dr. Bennett taught at the New York University School of Medicine from 1969 to 1982. He served as Director of New York University Medical Center (1969-1973), Vice President for Health Affairs (1969-?), Professor of Medicine (1970-1982), Dean of the School of Medicine and the Post-Graduate Medical School (1970-1982), Provost of the New York University Medical Center (1973-1982), and Executive Vice President for Health Affairs (1976-1982).

David Bloom

Portrait of David Bloom, MD. Dr. Bloom taught at New York Post-Graduate Medical School as an Instructor in Dermatology and Syphilology from 1928 to 1938. He then taught in the Department of Dermatology and Syphilology at the New York University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor (1948-1950), Associate Professor (1950-1957), and Professor (1957-1961).

Joseph Decatur Bryant

Carte de visite portrait of Joseph Decatur Bryant, MD (1845-1914). Dr. Bryant received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1868. He taught as a Professor of Surgical Anatomy, Surgery, and Orthopedic Surgery at Bellevue Hospital College from 1875 to 1914. Dr. Bryant also served as the Commissioner of Health of both New York City and New York State, Surgeon-General of the National Guard, and personal physician to President Grover Cleveland. In 1893, he operated on Cleveland for sarcoma of the left upper jaw.

Frank A. Calderone

Portrait of Frank Anthony Calderone, MD (1901-1987), upon his 1946 appointment as Director of the Interim Commission of the World Health Organization. Dr. Calderone received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1924. From 1931 to 1935, he served as an Instructor in Pharmacology at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College. He later taught in the New York University College of Medicine’s department of Preventive Medicine as an Instructor (1938-1942), Assistant Professor (1942), and Lecturer (1942-1947). Dr. Calderone served as Director of Health Services for the United Nations Secretariat from 1951 to 1954.
