Bertha Rader

Photograph of Bertha Rader, MD (1911-2011). Dr. Rader began her medical career as an EKG technician at Bellevue Hospital. After graduating from the New York University School of Medicine in 1945, Dr. Rader became Chief of the Cardiac Clinic, and ran the electrocardiography service at Bellevue Hospital for decades. She held the title of Associate Professor of Medicine at the School of Medicine until 2000.

James A. Shannon

Portrait of James A. Shannon, MD (1904-1994). Dr. Shannon received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1929. He taught as an Instructor in Otorhinolaryngology at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1933 to 1940, and then as Assistant Clinical Professor (1941-1947), Clinical Professor (1948-1950), and Professor (1951-1960) of Otorhinolaryngology at New York University College of Medicine. From 1955 to 1968, he served as Director of the National Institutes of Health.

Alfred Charles Post

Dr. Post taught at University Medical College as Professor of Anatomy beginning in 1838, and then as Professor of Professor of Principles, Practices & Operations of Surgery from 1851 to 1875. He later served as Professor Emeritus of Clinical Surgery.

Beverley Robinson

Dr. Robinson taught at Bellevue Hopsital Medical College as a clinical lecturer on Heart, Lungs, and Throat (1877-1882) and a Clinical Professor of Medicine (1882 to 1898). In 1989 he became Clinical Professor of Medicine at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College.

Burton C. D'Lugoff

Portrait of Burton C. D’Lugoff, MD. Dr. D’Lugoff received his MD. from New York University School of Medicine in 1957. He served as a Fellow in Pathology at the College of Medicine from 1957 to 1958. At the time this portrait was taken, he was the Directory of Community Medicine at Baltimore City Hospitals.

Severo Ochoa

Portrait of Severo Ochoa, MD (1905-1993). Dr. Ochoa was appointed Research Associate at New York University School of Medicine in 1942, after which he became Assistant Professor of Biochemistry (1945), Professor of Pharmacology (1946), Professor of Biochemistry (1954), and Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry. Dr. Ochoa was the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in1959 for his discoveries in biochemical genetics and nucleic acids.
