Image of Jesse Waring Mahoney, MD, from p. 51 of the 1954 NYU Medical Violet yearbook. Dr. Mahoney received his MD from New York University College of Medicine in 1940. He served as chief of surgery at Bellevue Hospital Center for 20 years.

Portrait of Leopold Lichtwitz, MD (1876-1943). In 1919, Dr. Litchwitz became the head of the Department of Internal Medicine at Hamburg’s Altona Municipal Hospital. He eventually became director of the hospital. In 1931, he became director of Berlin’s Rudolf Virchow Hospital. He was removed from his post by the Nazi regime in 1933. After emigrating to the United States, Dr. Lichtwitz became director of the Department of Internal Medicine at Montefiore Hospital.

Portrait of Walter Levy, MD. Dr. Levy received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1924. He served as the Alumni Association President from 1951 to 1952.

Portrait of Otto Loewi, MD (1873-1961). Dr. Loewi was the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1936 for his work on acetylcholine. A refugee of the Second World War, he was invited to join the NYU Department of Pharmacology as Research Professor in 1940.

Image of Milton Levy, MD, from p. 34 of the 1954 NYU Medical Violet yearbook. Dr. Levy joined the faculty of the New York University Medical College in 1930. From 1956 to 1970, he served as the chairman of the biochemistry department at New York University Dental School.

Portrait of Luther Burns MacKenzie, MD, inscribed, “Faithfully yours, Luther B. MacKenzie.” Dr. MacKenzie received his MD from New York University College of Medicine in 1904. He joined the faculty of New York University College of Medicine in 1911. In 1947, he received the NYU Alumni Meritorious Service Medal.

Image of Donald V. Moore, MD (1915-2009), from p. 39 of the 1954 NYU Medical Violet yearbook. Dr. Moore taught in the Department of Preventative Medicine at the New York University College of Medicine. He also served as parasitologist to Bellevue Hospital from 1947 to 1955.
