Signed portrait of Edvard Laurits Ehlers, MD (1863-1937). Inscribed to "Dr. Howard Fox with Dr. Ehlers’ best greetings". Dr. Ehlers was a Danish dermatologist who, along with Henri-Alexandre Danlos, studied and identified the connective tissue disorders now known as Ehlers-Danlos syndromes.

Dr. Freeman taught in the Pediatrics department of University Hospital and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1898 to 1930 and was then Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics from 1930 to 1945. From 1898 to 1911, he served as Chief of the Pediatric Clinic.

Among his many accomplishments in the field of medical librarianship, he served as president of the Medical Library Association and spearheaded the transformation of the NYU Medical Library into an academic department with faculty status for librarians.

Fields.” Dr. Fields was a dermatologist specializing in venereal diseases. After obtaining his MD at Georgetown University, he received post-graduate training in dermatology at Bellevue Hospital.
