L. Royal Christensen

Dr. Christensen taught at the New York University College of Medicine from 1941 to 1967 as a Fellow in Medicine (1941-1943), Instructor in Bacteriology (1943-1946), Assistant Professor of Microbiology (1946-1955), Associate Professor of Microbiology (1955-1959), and Associate Professor of Pathology (1959-1967). In 1953, he was named the director of the Berg Institute for Experimental Physiology, Surgery and Pathology. In 1962, he was appointed the Patent Officer for the NYU Medical Center.

Gilbert J. Clausman

Mr. Clausman became the librarian of the New York University Medical Center in 1955 and in 1959 was appointed Library Curator until his retirement in 1986. Among his many accomplishments in the field of medical librarianship, he served as president of the Medical Library Association and spearheaded the transformation of the NYU Medical Library into an academic department with faculty status for librarians.

Rowland Godfrey Freeman

Photograph of a painted portrait of Rowland Godfrey Freeman, Sr., MD, (1859-1945) dressed in regalia. Dr. Freeman taught in the Pediatrics department of University Hospital and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1898 to 1930 and was then Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics from 1930 to 1945. From 1898 to 1911, he served as Chief of the Pediatric Clinic.

Louis A. Duhring

Signed portrait of Louis Adolphis Duhring, MD (1845-1913), circa 1898. Inscription reads, “Louis A. Duhring, Philadelphia.” Dr. Duhring was a founding member of the American Dermatological Association and the founder of the University of Pennsylvania Medical School’s department of dermatology. He authored two major works on dermatology, Atlas of Skin Diseases (1876) and A Practical Treatise on Diseases of the Skin (1877).

Howard Fox

Portrait of Howard Fox, MD (1873-1954). Dr. Fox taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1925 to 1938 as Professor of Dermatology and Syphilology, after which he held the position of Professor Emeritus from 1948 to 1954.

Henry Dwight Chapin

Photograph of Henry Dwight Chapin, MD (1857-1942). An important figure in the field of pediatric medicine, Dr. Chapin served as Assistant to the Chair of Diseases of Children at Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1882 to 1888.

Samuel A. Brown

Portrait of Samuel Albertus Brown, MD (1874-1952). Dr. Brown received his MD from University Medical College in 1894. He taught at University Medical College as an Instructor in Physical Diagnosis from 1897 to 1903, and then at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1903 to 1932, serving as the Dean of the Medical School from 1915-1932 and Professor of Therapeutics from 1918-1932. He held the position of Professor Emeritus from 1932 to 1952.
