Facing First Avenue in the area of the present main entrance of the hospital, the building was torn down in 1938 to make way for the new Administration building. Dimensions are image only.

Bellevue Hospital - Ambulances, Drivers and Interns

A line-up of World War I-era ambulances, drivers and interns (in white), standing in formation behind a military officer. Information below from Registration Record: Almost all are wearing Ambulance Attendants caps. One man is standing in front of all the others in full military uniform. Over the basement doorway to the left can be seen a portrait, framed, of President Wilson.

Bellevue Hospital - Gatehouse

Gatehouse of Bellevue Hospital, in 1890. Some men can be seen in the photo, both at the gate and inside the courtyard. Information Below taken from Registration Record: Erected in 1885, the gates stoocd on the north side of 26th street, midway between First Avenue and the East River. The entrance was demolished in 1929 to allow for the constructino of the O.P.D building." Inscription over doorway at left, "Founded 1812. Erected 1885." Across the archway "Bellevue Hospital." Over the doorway at right, "Commissioners Thomas S. Brennan Prest /Henry H. Porter/ Chas E. Simmons/ Joseph M Dunn (?) architect." The hospital can be seen through the archway of the gatehouse, and on the left is a sidewalk going past the main entrance to Bellevue. There are two men standing in the street on the other side of the archway looking toward the camera. There are 4 shuttered windows across the top, only the lower halves are in the photograph. Written on the back of the photograph is "Summer 1890"
