Image of Elaine Pandia Ralli, MD (1894-1968). Dr. Ralli received her MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1925. She taught at New York University College of Medicine as an Associate Professor of Medicine. Ralli was an authority on diseases of metabolism and nutrition and a recipient of the Elizabeth Blackwell Citation for outstanding achievement as a woman in medicine.

Bertha Rader

Photograph of Bertha Rader, MD (1911-2011). Dr. Rader began her medical career as an EKG technician at Bellevue Hospital. After graduating from the New York University School of Medicine in 1945, Dr. Rader became Chief of the Cardiac Clinic, and ran the electrocardiography service at Bellevue Hospital for decades. She held the title of Associate Professor of Medicine at the School of Medicine until 2000.

Mary C. McLaughlin

Portrait of Mary Culhane McLaughlin, MD (1920-2014). Dr. McLaughlin received her MD from New York University School of Medicine in 1946. A leader in public health and preventive medicine, she served as New York City Commissioner of the Department of Health from 1969 to 1972 and became Chairman of the Department of Community Medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital in 1976. Dr. McLaughlin received the NYU Medical Alumni Achievement Award in 1977. She was the recipient of the Governor W. Averell Harriman Award for Public Service in 1958.

May Edward Chinn

Portrait of May Edward Chinn, MD (1896-1980), print made from an image in the 1926 Medical Violet yearbook. Dr. Chinn received her MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1926. She was the first Black woman graduate of University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College. Dr. Chinn went on to have an important role as a cancer researcher, working for the Strang Clinic at the New York Infirmary from 1944 to 1974. She was later awarded honorary Doctor of Science degrees from both Columbia University and New York University (1980).

Dr. Bender was an Instructor in Psychiatry at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1931 to 1936, She then taught at New York University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry (1936-1941), Associate Professor of Psychiatry (1941-1951), and Professor of Clinical Psychiatry (1951-1958).
