Description
Photograph of the Class of 1944, taken during their 3rd year. With the beginning of World War II, NYU College of Medicine compressed its normal four year M.D. program into three years, and almost all male students enrolled in the Army or Navy. In return for a small salary (~$21/month), a stipend for room and board, and getting their tuition paid, the students served on Active duty (in uniform) while in school, and entered the Reserve upon graduation, during the period of their internships. Photographic print taken from the 1943 Medical Violet yearbook.
