Portrait of Charles Gottlieb, MD (1886-1960). Dr. Gottlieb received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1907. He was on the faculty of the New York University College of Medicine from 1933 to 1952, teaching in the Department of Radiology. From 1947 to 1949, he was Acting Chairman of the Department of Radiology, and from 1948 until his retirement in 1953, he served as Chair. He held the title of Professor Emeritus of Radiology from his retirement in 1952 to his death in 1960.

Photograph of Ludwig Eichna, MD, at work in lab, name printed below image. Dr. Eichna taught at the New York University College of Medicine as an Instructor in Medicine (1940-1941), Assistant Professor of Medicine (1941-1946), Associate Professor of Medicine (1946-1957), and Professor of Medicine (1957-1960). He then went on to serve as chairman of the Department of Medicine at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center from 1960 to 1974.

Portrait of Menas Sarkas Gregory, MD (1872-1941). Dr. Gregory taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Medical Diseases (1918-1924) and Professor of Psychiatry (1924-1937) before becoming Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at New York University College of Medicine (1937-1941).

Portrait of John Perdue Gray, MD (1825-1886). Dr. Gray served as Professor of Psychological Medicine at Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1875 to 1882.

Portrait of Rowland Godfrey Freeman, Sr., MD (1859-1945). Dr. Freeman taught in the Pediatrics department of University Hospital and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1898 to 1930 and was then Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics from 1930 to 1945. From 1898 to 1911, he served as Chief of the Pediatric Clinic.

Mr. Clausman became the librarian of the New York University Medical Center in 1955 and in 1959 was appointed Library Curator until his retirement in 1986. Among his many accomplishments in the field of medical librarianship, he served as president of the Medical Library Association and spearheaded the transformation of the NYU Medical Library into an academic department with faculty status for librarians.

Portrait of Karl Murdock Bowman, MD (1888-1973). Dr. Bowman taught at New York University College of Medicine as Professor of Psychiatry from 1936 to 1941.

Portrait of Clarence E. de la Chapelle, MD (1898-1987). Dr. De la Chapelle received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1922. He joined the faculty of the medical school in 1925, where he remained for the duration of his career as a leading cardiologist. Dr. De la Chapelle held various leadership roles at the medical school, including serving as Assistant Dean and Associate Dean from 1943-1948, and as Associate Dean of the Post-Graduate Medical School from 1948-1963. On February 18, 1971, the Bellevue Hospital Medical library was named for, and dedicated, to Dr. Clarence E. de la Chapelle. In 1983, he endowed the NYU Medical Library Archives in memory of his late wife of 51 years, the former Lillian Buckmann.
