Signed portrait of James Francis McKernon, MD. Dr. McKernon taught in the department of surgery at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital. He served on the school’s board of directors for many years, including terms as board president in 1912, 1914, 1920, and 1928. Dr. McKernon also served as President of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital from 1920 to 1929.

He was elected chairman of the board of the NYU Medical Center in 1976, the first physician to hold the role.
