Portrait of Abraham Jacobi, MD (1830-1919), in profile. Dr. Jacobi taught at University Medical College as Professor of Diseases of Children from 1867 to 1870. The first director of this specialty at Bellevue, Dr. Jacobi is known today as the “father of American pediatrics.” He served twice as president of the American Pediatrics Association.

Photograph of a painted portrait of Frederick Clark Holden, MD, dressed in regalia. Dr. Holden received his MD from University Medical College in 1892. He taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Professor of Gynecology (1919-1932), Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Administrative Department Chair (1932-1934), and Professor Emeritus Obstetrics and Gynecology (1934-1944).

Portrait of Benjamin Fordyce Barker, MD (1818-1891). Dr. Barker taught at Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1861 to 1890 as Professor of Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children (1861-1869), Professor of Clinical Midwifery (1869-1870), and Professor of Clinical Midwifery and Diseases of Women (1870-1890).

Portrait of John Frederick Erdmann, MD (1864-1954). Dr. Erdmann received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1887. He taught as Professor of Practical Anatomy at Bellevue Hospital Medical College and University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1895 to 1899.

Portrait of Emanuel David Friedman, MD (1884-1953). Dr. Friedman received his MD from University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1907. He taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as an Instructor in Medicine (1914-1920), Instructor in Neuropathology (1920-1922), Lecturer on Neuropathology (1922-1925), Clinical Professor of Neuropathology (1925-1927), and Professor of Neurology (1927-1947). He also served as Director of the Neurological Laboratories (1940-1942), Chairman of the Department of Neurology (1942-1947), and Professor Emeritus of Neurology (1947-1953) at New York University College of Medicine.

Photograph of John Frederick Erdmann, MD (1864-1954), at the dedication ceremony for the Erdmann Surgical Auditorium at the Post-Graduate Medical School. Dr. Erdmann (seated in wheelchair) is shown with Dr. J. William Hinton, Professor and Chairman of Surgery of the Post-Graduate Medical School, and Dr. Edward M. Bernecker, adminstrator. Dr. Erdmann received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1887. He taught as Professor of Practical Anatomy at Bellevue Hospital Medical College and University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1895 to 1899.

Signed portrait of John C. A. Gerster, MD (1881-1974). Dr. Gerster taught as an Assistant Demonstrator in Operative Surgery at the University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College from 1910-1913. He later taught as Clinical Professor of Surgery at the New York University College of Medicine from 1939 to 1950. He also had a career-long association with Lennox Hill Hospital (1922-1974).

Portrait of Jasper Jewett Garmany, MD (1859-1947), inscribed “To Dr. Lusk from his friend, Jasper J. Garmany.” Dr. Garmany received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1882. He taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College as Clinical Professor of Surgery and Demonstrator of Operative Surgery from (1898-1899), and as Clinical Professor of Surgery (1899-1916).
