Portrait of Leo Buerger, MD (1879-1943). In 1908, Dr. Buerger identified the vascular disease thromboangiitis obliterans, also known as Buerger’s Disease. Along with his achievements in cardiology, he was known for his skill as a pathologist, bacteriologist, and urologist.
