David Bloom

Portrait of David Bloom, MD. Dr. Bloom taught at New York Post-Graduate Medical School as an Instructor in Dermatology and Syphilology from 1928 to 1938. He then taught in the Department of Dermatology and Syphilology at the New York University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor (1948-1950), Associate Professor (1950-1957), and Professor (1957-1961).

Leo Buerger

Portrait of Leo Buerger, MD (1879-1943). In 1908, Dr. Buerger identified the vascular disease thromboangiitis obliterans, also known as Buerger’s Disease. Along with his achievements in cardiology, he was known for his skill as a pathologist, bacteriologist, and urologist.

Robert Keith Cannan

Harry Bakwin

Photograph of Harry Bakwin, MD (1894-1973), writing at his desk. Dr. Bakwin taught at University and Bellevue Hospital Medical College, later New York University College of Medicine, as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (1930-1940), Associate Professor of Pediatrics (1940-1950), and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics (1950-1974). Dr. Bakwin authored the widely regarded medical text, "Clinical Management of Behavior Disorders in Children," and coined the expression “tender loving care.”

Lyman Guy Barton

Portrait of Lyman Guy Barton, MD (1866–1944). Dr. Barton received his MD from Bellevue Hospital Medical College in 1891. An inscription on the back of the photograph reads: “Miss Bayne, this is Lyman Guy Barton, Bellevue Medical College, 1891, inventor of Barton Obstetrical Forceps, Barton Head tongs, etc. (v. Violet ‘44) & classmate of Wm Studdiford, Sr. - L. Gardner.”

Dr. Baldwin taught at New York University College of Medicine from 1939 to 1958 as a Research Technician (1939-1940), Assistant in Pediatrics (1940-1944), Fellow in Pediatrics (1940-1945), Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (1944-1950), and Associate Professor of Pediatrics (1950-1958).

Johan Almkvist

Portrait of Johan Almkvist, MD (1869-1945), inscribed to “Dr. Howard Fox from his friend Johan Almkvist, Stockholm d. 17/11/1930." Dr. Almkvist was a Swedish dermatologist known for his research on mercurial toxaemias and his method of treatment for syphilis. He served as Professor of Dermatology and Physician-in-Chief at St. Göran Hospital from 1913 to 1927, and as Professor of Dermatology and Syphilology at the Karolinska Institute from 1927 to 1934.
